PIC introduces the PS0100, a current mode, synchronous, step-up converter delivering 100mA at 3.3V from a single AA cell or a 1.8V supply. Accepting an operating input as low as 0.9V, the IS0100 can operate across the full functional range of a single or two AA cells. Power conversion is up to 92% efficient in boost applications.
The PS0100 provides MODE selection for pass-through mode. In the pass-through mode, the boost operation is disabled and the output is equal to input. In normal boost mode, high frequency switching (up to 2MHz) minimizes the board area by allowing the use of tiny, low profile inductors and ceramic capacitors. The PS0100 provides automatic pulse skipping at light loads, thus reducing the supply current for higher efficiency and extended battery life. At shutdown, the PS0100 fully discharges the output to ground and draws very low supply current. A 0.5mS Power Good flag for power-on reset (POR) is also available in PS0100.
